This might seem a bit out of the box, but I save the pallets that I really like. I thought maybe they might give you all some insight into the way I do things :) It’s not all as simple and easy as it might seem…I go through about a 25 sheets of pallet paper per SMALL project. Possibly more. They also serve as a kind of time capsule for my projects…I can look at a pallet and know exactly which painting I was working on. Enjoy the pretty colors <3
Isabel Marant is well know french fashion designer, who recently has been accused of copying some models from adidas, but MOST importantly, she copied a MIXE design.
The MIXES are one of the natives tribes from the south of MEXICO (OAXACA), she decided that, this blouse with a ethnic embroidery was chic, so it was produced as one of her own designs.
A few months ago, the tribe and the government, filed a demand vs ISABEL MARANT, she quickly said it was her fault, she admitted that was a copy.
SO… NOW A FRENCH COMPANY ; ANTIQUE BATIK HAS DECIDED TO PATENT THIS EMBROIDERY AS THEIR OWN!!! ….
THE TRIBE CANNOT REPRODUCE ANY GARMENT!
PRODUCE THIS KIND OF GARMENTS IS SOMETIMES THE ONLY WAY THEY EARN SOME MONEY
The MIXES don’t have any ways to defend and get a patent for their embroidery…
THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS!!!!
PLEASE SIGN THIS PETITION FROM CHANGE.ORG! TO AVOID THIS!!!
The translation to English of the petition :
EVERYTHING THAT IS FROM OAXACA STAY IN OAXACA !!!
It’s time to help the Mixes, their embroidery is in danger, of being reclaimed by a French company as their original idea, this started because a French fashion designer, copied this designs.
The Mixe’s designs, that a few months ago were copied, are now being patented by a French fashion designer ISABEL MARANT and the company ANTIQUE BATIK (who recently filed a demand for the rights of reproduction for this designs)
There’s is not a law that can protect the rights of this tribe to produce their embroidery.
At my last company, one day someone in accounting approached me at lunch and quietly told me I need to ask for a raise because I was way underpaid.
They gave me a number to shoot for. It was about twice than what I had been making at the time.
So I went online, did some research, found some figures backing up my claim, put it all together and went to my boss.
I got what I asked for.
If it hadn’t been for that person in accounting telling me I was way underpaid, I’d have never known. I went from barely scraping by to being able to have a savings account and getting all my debts paid thanks to them.
You should at least check sites like salary.com to start the process of seeing what you should be making.
